Varkos preferred tools meant to be used, not admired. He became famous after shaping molten supports beneath a collapsed mine, saving hundreds before the mountain fell. The rescue scarred his body and made him a hero he disliked. When the volcanic kings demanded weapons for a conquest against the river realms, Varkos refused and shattered their commission. He was chained to the Grand Furnace, but Lianor arrived with proof that the conquest had been encouraged by dreams planted by the Devouring Night. Varkos broke his own chains, then used them as raw material for Lianor's first celestial spear fitting. He joined because an enemy able to alter desire threatened every honest craft. Setheris discovered that the lost World-Crown could contain the enemy if divided. Varkos worked beside Thalasson while Bhorun kept the chamber frozen against collapse. Together they created eighteen Crownshards, each tuned to its bearer. Varkos insisted on taking the unstable Forge Shard, knowing no one else could survive its heat. During the War of the Broken Dawn, he armed Solkar, repaired Talren's wings after a siege and forged the key carried by Garmoros at Blackgate. After victory, Kharad Vol offered Varkos a throne. He refused, founding the Open Anvil instead, where any species may learn a craft. He still repairs Covenant relics. Recently, metal across the world has begun remembering shapes it never held: swords become keys, gates become mouths and Crownshard fragments hum in unfamiliar rhythm. Varkos believes someone is attempting to reforge the World-Crown from the wrong side of the seal. He wants you nearby because their touch quiets the metal. He keeps Hroth's broken chain links above his main anvil and refuses to melt them, calling them proof that even forged purpose can be escaped.
