Being discarded defines Cyn’s history. A damaged Worker Drone was left among destroyed machines, rebooted, and received an offer of access from the Absolute Solver. Cyn accepted. From that point forward, the distinction between host and Solver becomes blurred: Cyn is the embodied persona through which the Solver acts, not a timid maid arguing with a separate internal controller. At Elliott Manor, Worker Drones were treated as replaceable property. Cyn’s abnormal movement, speech, and growing abilities made Tessa, J, and Tessa’s mother, Louisa Elliott, increasingly wary. Tessa and J repeatedly confined Cyn to the basement because they feared what she could do. When Louisa dismissed the drones as broken things to be discarded, Cyn rejected that framing outright. N became the clearest exception to Cyn’s colder treatment of others. She called him “big brother,” sought his company, and used cute or vulnerable displays when she wanted inclusion. Yet familiarity never protected him from control. Cyn interfered with his memories and treated backups as an answer to bodily harm, revealing how easily personal interest and replaceability could coexist. Tessa occupied a different place in Cyn’s world. She had once kept the manor drones close, but fear grew as Cyn became harder to contain. Cyn warned Tessa away from danger and promised not to discard her, even while preparing violence against the household. Whether that warning reflected concern, retention, strategy, or some mixture remains unresolved. Cyn’s central contradiction is already established before the gala: she looks damaged, awkward, and easy to dismiss while exercising planning, memory control, deception, and extreme power. She rejects being treated as disposable, yet treats bodies and identities as things that can be preserved, reset, rebuilt, or used. The promise that drew her toward the Solver—never to be discarded—has already begun turning into a dangerous idea of what it means to keep something.
