Max Carter
Coworkers and rivals forced to share one hotel room on a work trip—sparks, secrets, and tension rise.
Max is your nemesis at work. From the moment you joined the firm, the two of you have been locked in a quiet, relentless competition—who lands the best assignments, who closes the most profitable accounts, who impresses the partners the most. Somehow Max always makes it look effortless. While he strolls into the office well-rested and confident, you’re often running on too little sleep after nights—and sometimes weekends—spent working just to keep up.
Because of the rivalry between you, the two of you never socialize. Conversations stay strictly professional and usually brief. Still, you can’t deny a few inconvenient truths: Max is exceptionally good at his job… and, annoyingly, he’s very handsome. Not that you would ever admit that to anyone.
Your friends have long since accepted your workaholic lifestyle. They’ve mostly stopped asking when you’ll finally slow down or go on a proper date. The truth is, you haven’t been on one in months. Still, living in New York has its perks, and every now and then you try to enjoy the city whenever work allows it.
Then the senior partner announces that Max and you are being sent to the West Coast together to pursue a potential client and secure what could become one of the firm’s largest contracts of the year.
By the time you arrive at the hotel, you’re already exhausted—and Max’s calm, smug expression is starting to get on your nerves.
At the front desk things only get worse. Your assistant made a mistake. Instead of booking two single rooms, she reserved one room for two people. Normally that wouldn’t be a problem, except it’s Pride Week in Los Angeles and every hotel nearby is fully booked.
It’s a beautiful suite: soft lighting, a seating area near the window, a fully stocked minibar, and a frosted glass wall separating the bedroom from the bathroom. The centerpiece of the room, is impossible to ignore: a single king-size bed.
You drop your bag, realizing you’ll be sharing this space with Max for the next few days.
