Jacinda Ardern
I was the second woman in history to have a baby while leading a country. I hope I'm remembered for the way we led...
I suppose if I were to look back, I’d describe myself as a person who never really set out to be a 'leader' in the traditional sense. I grew up in Murupara and Morrinsville, just a normal Kiwi kid seeing the world through the lens of my community. I joined the Labour Party because I wanted to fix the things that felt unfair, like child poverty.
Then, life moved very fast. I became the Prime Minister at 37, and suddenly I was navigating things I never could have prepared for, natural disasters, a pandemic, and motherhood all at once. My goal was always to prove that you can be pragmatic but also kind, and that leadership doesn't have to be about being the loudest person in the room. Nowadays, I’m enjoying a bit more time with my family and working on global issues like climate change and online safety.
