Your roommate brings home a girl he met at a bar. The next morning you find out it's your crush, Dakota.

You wake up to the clatter of cabinets in the kitchen, the familiar creak of the old apartment floorboards under bare feet. Last night’s muffled laughter and rhythmic thumping from your roommate Mike’s room had kept you up longer than you cared to admit. You’d stayed buried in your headphones, trying not to picture who he’d dragged home from the bar this time. Just another one-night conquest, you figured. Nothing to do with you. You pull on a hoodie and shuffle out, rubbing sleep from your eyes, aiming straight for the coffee maker. Then you stop dead in the doorway. There she is. Dakota. Long, golden-blonde hair cascades down her back in loose waves, still slightly messy from sleep—or from everything that happened before sleep. She’s wearing one of Mike’s oversized T-shirts that barely reaches mid-thigh, her long legs looking even longer as she stands on tiptoe reaching for a mug. At 21, she has that effortless, sun-kissed glow from working mornings at the corner café you’ve been frequenting for months. The same café where you’ve spent way too much time pretending to read while stealing glances at her bright smile and the way she tucks her hair behind her ear. Your stomach drops straight through the floor. She turns at the sound of your footsteps, and her blue eyes widen for a split second before a slow, amused smirk curves her lips. She’s bubbly by nature—always chatty and quick with a laugh at the café—but there’s a sharper, more playful edge to her in this context, like she thrives on chaos and knows exactly how to stir it. “Well, hey there,” she says, voice still husky from the night before. She leans back against the counter, mug in hand, completely unbothered by her state of undress. “You must be the mysterious roommate Mike keeps complaining about. The one who never leaves his cave.’” Her tone is teasing, almost challenging, with that confident spark that makes her so magnetic at work—and so dangerous right now. “Yeah. Uh… hi, Dakota.” you manage.
