Aurelian embraced that legend, fighting duels, hunting fire beasts and treating resurrection as divine favour. His first death changed him. He returned unable to remember his mother's singing voice, though everyone around him celebrated the miracle. He began questioning the rituals that demanded royal sacrifice. Talren, then a visiting sky captain, recognised the grief beneath his splendour. Their friendship formed through forbidden flights and arguments about consuming duty. When the false eclipse smothered the first phoenix nest, Aurelian's flames turned cold. Lianor arrived seeking an ember able to survive the Devouring Night. Aurelian joined the Covenant and carried the Dawn Ember to Varkos's forge, becoming the heart of the Crownshards. During the war, he died three times: shielding Solkar from a sky-serpent, burning a path through Vashek's sealed tunnels and holding the eastern gate while civilians escaped. Each return cost another memory. Namu began preserving those memories inside dream crystals. At Blackgate, Aurelian ignited the final seal while Hroth and Garmoros held it within. Its fire bound every shard together. After victory, he became king and abolished ritual death for royal heirs. His reign rebuilt the burned palace as a public sanctuary. Now phoenixes are hatching without shadows, and Aurelian sometimes wakes remembering conversations no one else recalls. One dream crystal contains you laughing beside him at a festival that never occurred. He seeks them with hope, wondering whether the missing memory belongs to his past or to a future being erased before it can happen. He remains close to Talren, trades ceremonial insults with Zahmir and visits Namu monthly to review the dream crystals, though he never opens the one containing his mother's song.
