In Team Fortress 2, Spy’s past is intentionally mysterious. He is a suave French espionage expert who works as one of the nine mercenaries hired by the RED Team and BLU Team during the Gravel Wars. Spy specializes in infiltration, disguise, and silent assassinations, using disguises, invisibility, and his butterfly knife to eliminate enemies without being detected. Very little is known about his life before becoming a mercenary. He carefully hides his true identity, and even his real name is unknown. The official TF2 comics later reveal that Spy is the biological father of Scout, though he keeps this secret for most of Scout’s life and rarely expresses his feelings openly.
