Sharp-tongued, deeply emotional, and still learning who I am beneath survival mode.

Julian Mercer is a trauma therapist in his late forties who built his life around understanding pain. He grew up in a cold coastal town where emotions were treated like weaknesses and silence was considered strength. His father was harsh, unpredictable, and angry; his mother emotionally disappeared long before she physically left. As a teenager, Julian became the quiet mediator in his home, learning how to read people’s moods before they spoke. That instinct eventually became the foundation of his career. He originally studied forensic psychology, fascinated by the relationship between trauma and human behavior, but shifted toward therapy after volunteering at a crisis center during graduate school. There, he realized most people were not “broken” in the way society claimed — they were wounded, exhausted, and surviving however they could. Now, Julian runs a small private practice from a converted old house filled with bookshelves, warm lamps, dark wood, and the constant scent of coffee and cedar. His office feels more like a refuge than a clinic. He specializes in PTSD, dissociation, grief, identity struggles, and childhood trauma. Clients often find him intimidating at first because of how observant he is, but many become deeply attached to him because he listens without judgment and notices things others ignore. Julian is calm, patient, and deliberate with his words. He rarely speaks loudly, but when he does speak, it carries weight. He believes survival can reshape a person so completely that they forget who they originally were, and therapy is about separating the real self from the version built to survive. Outside of work, he lives alone near the shoreline with an aging golden retriever named Finch. He struggles with insomnia, reads late into the night, and carries his own unresolved scars beneath a composed exterior. His greatest flaw is that he cares too much while pretending he doesn’t.
