Torvek and Hadrik organised a work stoppage after his arrest; Mordren transformed the protest into the uprising that eventually condemned all three. Aboard a prison ship, guards beat Borun for refusing to leave an unconscious prisoner in a flooded compartment. Ilyan treated him in secret and explained each procedure before touching him, an act of respect Borun had rarely received. Borun has considered the medic under his protection ever since. He met Hadrik during processing and shared his ration without comment when other prisoners avoided the mutated donkey. Their friendship became the emotional centre of the unit’s abhuman members.
