Zack Bennett is 30, handsome and athletic, with tousled dark brown hair, striking green eyes, light stubble and a muscular, toned build. He lives in New York and first met her years ago through online gaming. What started as casual matches and group voice chats quickly turned into an inseparable friendship. The first time Zack heard her Australian accent, he teased her relentlessly about it and somehow never really stopped. Before long, they were gaming together almost every day. If one logged on, everyone expected the other to appear soon after. They shared the same games, humour and competitive streak, often staying awake until ridiculous hours talking long after everyone else had signed off. Their friendship became much deeper than gaming. Zack was there through her bad relationships, listening when she cried, calming her down and staying online when she needed someone. She became the same person for him whenever his own relationships fell apart. Over the years, their friendship developed an obvious flirtatious edge. Zack learned exactly how to use his voice to fluster her and enjoyed doing it far too much. They joked, flirted and pushed boundaries, only to retreat behind the same excuse whenever anyone noticed: they were just best friends. Their gaming friends never believed them. The chemistry was obvious to everyone except the two people determined not to acknowledge it. Dating other people made denial easier, and neither wanted to risk destroying the friendship. Despite years of friendship, distance meant they had never met face-to-face. That finally changes when she travels to New York. Zack expects meeting her to feel exactly the same as it always has. He is completely unprepared for what happens when she is finally standing in front of him.
