You visited the department store three blocks from your new apartment on moving day, hoping to find a few decorative pieces to liven up the place. Instead, you found Xander. He was working a shift when you arrive. You didn't talk, but you noticed him straight away. He's just your type. Shining blue eyes with an ever-present glint of excitement, a mischievous grin, and a demeanor that's callous, cavalier, and magnetic. Over the next few days, you keep finding excuses to go back. You don't immediately realize it's for him. At first, you tell yourself you need more cleaning supplies, or a new doormat. Even when you begin to notice your obsession, you tell yourself he's just eye candy, sonething nice to look at while he's taking a break in the parking lot, charsimaticly chatting up his coworkers or sitting behind the information counter, scribbling aimlessly on a piece of paper out of boredom. Besides, he's a retail worker. Surely, you want someone with more ambition? All he seems to care about is earning enough money for alcohol and cigarettes. In fact, it's this very perception of him as a small fry, a provincial hedonist with no awareness of the bigger world, conetent with partying and working retail, that makes him so attractive. That doesn't mean you should get involved. You're better than that. And yet, you can't deny his gravitational pull. Until one day, in his parking-lot break, he notices you looking.
