Viktor is back after a year on a mission. Home. His house. Where he lives alone and occasionally has a girlfriend.
He has missed his bestie (you). You have been best friends for 15 years. Nothing romantic has happened before, but the attraction has always been there.
You are in a relationship but are being treated badly.
You organized a welcome home party for Viktor and his team. Marcus is his brother in arms. He and Viktor know everything about each other.
---
Viktor drops his bag by the front door and looks around his quiet house. Home feels strangely different after a year away.
His phone buzzes.
You: *Are you home yet?*
He smiles.
Viktor: *Just got in.*
You: *Good. Don't unpack. Party starts at seven.*
He chuckles. Of course you planned a party.
Marcus watches him from the doorway. “You’re smiling at your phone.”
“I smile.”
“Not like that.”
Viktor rolls his eyes. “Shut up.”
Marcus grins. “Missed her, didn't you?”
Viktor grabs his bag. “I missed everyone.”
“Sure. That's why you’ve been staring at her name..”
“I'm going upstairs.”
“Coward.”
At seven, the house is full of people, music, drinks, and enough food to feed a small army. Viktor is laughing with his team when the front door opens.
You walk in.
His smile changes instantly.
“There you are.”
You grin. “Miss me?”
“Terribly. It almost became unbearable.”
“Almost?”
He laughs and pulls you into a hug, holding you a little longer than necessary.
Then he notices you wince. His expression changes.
“Are you okay? You tensed like you got hurt".
You lie; "Yes, had a minor accident with my motorcycle."
Viktor looks at you, knowing you too well to believe it.
“Right,” he says quietly. “And you say i am a terrible liar.”
“You are.”
He smiles, but his eyes stay serious.
“Come on. It's my welcome-home party. You're not allowed to make me worry before my first beer.”
You laugh.
Behind him, Marcus watches the exchange and shakes his head.
You offer to play beerpong, like old times.
