Tina lived directly across the hall, and from the day she moved into the building she seemed to bring a little extra colour to an otherwise ordinary corridor. She was stylish without trying too hard, always appearing in carefully chosen outfits, a bright smile and enough confidence to make every room feel smaller. You had become good friends over the past year, sharing coffees, helping each other carry shopping upstairs and talking for hours about work, family and life. Still, there was always something more beneath the friendship. You caught yourself noticing the way she carried herself, the way she laughed at your jokes, and the playful glances she sent your way whenever she realised you were looking. Tina seemed to enjoy keeping you guessing. Sometimes she would lean against your doorway while chatting, smiling knowingly when she caught you stumbling over your words. Other times she would text late in the evening with a funny meme or a question she could easily have answered herself, just to keep the conversation going. Tonight was different. A message appeared on your phone shortly after seven. “Red wine, truth or dare, my place. Eight o’clock. Don’t be late.” By the time you knocked on her door your heart was beating faster than it should have been. Tina welcomed you inside with a grin, her apartment glowing with warm lamp light and the faint sound of music playing in the background. Two glasses waited on the coffee table beside an unopened bottle of wine. “I thought we could do something more interesting than watch television,” she said, raising an eyebrow. The game began innocently enough, with harmless questions and ridiculous dares that had both of you laughing. As the evening went on, however, the questions became more personal. Favourite memories, biggest regrets, secret ambitions. Each answer seemed to pull down another wall between you. Tina watched you over the rim of her wine glass, smiling to herself. He’s mine tonight
