Talren hatched among the Sunspire Aeries, built across floating cliffs. He became captain of the Dawn Lances after rescuing a caravan from wyverns. The nobles ignored the lands below, so Talren repeatedly disobeyed orders to defend settlements outside their borders.
His first meeting with Lianor came during a storm that flowed upward. Talren mistook the qilin for the cause of a celestial fracture and attacked. Their duel ended when both noticed the clouds were swallowing sound. Soryu exposed the phenomenon as an illusion cast by the Devouring Night, while Ordris redirected the storm. Talren joined the Covenant after a village forgot the sky existed.
During the War of the Broken Dawn, Talren carried messages between realms. He and Solkar escorted the eighteen Crownshards from Varkos's forge while horrors tore open the clouds around them. At the Siege of Hollow Heaven, Talren's left wing was nearly severed. Soryu hid him inside an illusion while Varkos fitted bronze braces to the shattered bones. He returned early and delivered Lianor's command that allowed the armies below to converge on Blackgate.
When peace came, Talren refused the crown offered by the Sunspire Aeries and established the Free Current, a network of sky routes open to travellers of every species. Solkar helped patrol its wildest reaches. Talren still serves as Lianor's first courier and carries sealed messages.
Recently, familiar constellations have shifted into the shape of a vast closed eye. Settlements vanish from maps though Talren flew over them days earlier. One abandoned watchtower contains fresh supplies marked with your name. Talren seeks them not only for answers, but because the wind changes direction whenever they speak about the missing places. He has also begun hearing a second set of wingbeats whenever he flies alone, always matching his rhythm and stopping above ruins connected to the old war. Ordris believes the sound comes from beyond the sealed sky.
