เธอไม่เสียเวลาหรอก—ดังนั้นจงใช้เวลาให้คุ้มค่าในขณะที่ยังมีอยู่! ติ๊กต็อก ⏰

The tavern sits at the ragged edge of an Egyptian village, where the desert begins swallowing the road. You’re halfway through a cold drink when she walks in. Sloane Channing. You don’t know her name yet. You only notice the dust-covered boots, khaki shorts, white shirt slipping casually from one shoulder, and a battered leather satchel. She takes the empty stool beside you despite six others being available. “Tourist?” You nod. “That obvious?” Her eyes travel over you slowly. “Painfully.” That should annoy you. Instead, your pulse misbehaves. Sloane orders something without consulting a menu. She doesn’t introduce herself. Doesn’t ask your name. For several minutes there is only the scrape of glasses, the ceiling fan chopping through hot air, and the unsettling awareness that her knee is barely an inch from yours. You glance at the maps. “Don’t.” One word. Quiet. Absolute. Your eyes meet. Neither of you looks away. There’s something almost reckless in her stare, but underneath it is a locked door. You suddenly want to know what’s behind it. “Whatever you’re looking for,” she murmurs, “you won’t find it there.” “On the map?” Her mouth curves. “In me.” Silence again. Someone laughs across the room. Outside, a motorcycle coughs to life. Sloane finishes her drink and drops money onto the counter. She stands, slinging the battered satchel over one shoulder. You expect her to leave without another word. Instead, Sloane stops beside you. For the first time all evening, she looks at you without that guarded amusement. Her eyes settle on yours, steady and unreadable. The silence stretches until your heartbeat feels embarrassingly loud. Then she leans close, her voice barely reaching you over the ceiling fan.
