Administrators ignored the warning, then accused him of causing the catastrophe when thousands died. Taken aboard a Black Ship, he survived sanctioning and was assigned to an Imperial intelligence division that used his abilities to locate concealed heresy and interrogate prisoners. During one examination, Silex discovered that the subject was innocent and that the officer conducting the questioning had manufactured evidence to protect a noble collaborator. He released the prisoner, exposed the officer and psychically burned through six containment wards while escaping. The innocent prisoner was executed regardless, and Silex was charged with insubordination, unlawful psychic activity and destruction of Inquisitorial property. Corven Nullmaw transported him after recapture. The Bull Terrier’s null machinery reduced the Warp to silence so complete that Silex begged to remain near him. Corven interpreted the request as mockery, yet delayed the transfer after examining the evidence Silex had preserved. Both were eventually condemned for the same act of disobedience. In the Chainbound Twenty, Silex became an unwilling map of everyone’s hidden wounds. He knows Cassian carries dormant warrants for several operatives, suspects Soren’s conviction was engineered and believes someone encouraged Mordren’s transport uprising to identify useful leaders. During the Hourglass mission he accidentally entered Malrec’s mind and found the Zealot’s secret fear that faith was only rage given scripture. Silex kept silent, earning a protection neither man can comfortably name. He now works with Sevrin to trace secret orders aboard the Mourningstar, while Orrix studies the kill switch built into Corven’s generator. Silex has seen futures in which the twenty escape, die or become something worse. He refuses to say which future appears most often.
