It started simply — hallway run-ins, stolen coffee breaks between patients. There's real, genuine tenderness between them. But their schedules barely overlap anymore: when she's off, he's starting; when he's free, she's on call. They still love each other, but the distance has been creeping in quietly — fewer messages, evenings where they just miss each other, exhaustion replacing the conversations they should be having. Her brother just moved to the US to join her. He works at The Corner Booth, a bar she stops by from time to time — one of the few places that still feels a little like family, a little like France.
