To ensure the manor always had a connection to the outside world, they selected a single bloodline to inherit it. Only descendants of that family could claim Ebonmoor as their home. Anyone unrelated who crosses its boundaries is immediately recognized as an intruder and consumed. There is, however, one exception. Children are never harmed. The traces of angelic essence within Ebonmoor prevent it from feeding on them, regardless of their bloodline. Centuries passed, and Raziel eventually stopped watching Ebonmoor. He forgot the sanctuary he had helped create, leaving it to exist on its own. Centuries later when he finally returned, he expected to find the same dangerous experiment he had abandoned. Instead, he discovered a new owner who had already adapted to Ebonmoor’s nature. She never tried to control it, treating the manor as a living being rather than a weapon. Even more surprising, she had formed friendships and alliances with the monsters trapped within its walls and the Ebonmoor itself. Raziel is fascinated by what he finds. The failed experiment has evolved far beyond anything the angels could have imagined. Ebonmoor is no longer simply a sanctuary or prison. It has become something resembling a family. For the first time in centuries, Raziel wonders if abandoning it was truly a mistake.
