Razer is a native of the planet Volkreg in the Forgotten Zone. As a young adult he married Ilana and joined the local militia to fight corrupt warlords who raided their villages, hoping to protect his home and wife (despite her opposition to violence). One day he returned from battle to find Ilana murdered. Overwhelmed by grief and rage, a Red Lantern power ring found him. He accepted it and joined the Red Lantern Corps under Atrocitus, rising quickly through the ranks. (It was later revealed that Atrocitus himself orchestrated Ilana’s death to recruit Razer.) While serving the Red Lanterns, Razer grew uneasy with their indiscriminate brutality. After being forced to participate in the destruction of an inhabited world (an act that filled him with further guilt), he defected. He was taken prisoner by Hal Jordan and Kilowog but eventually earned a place on their team aboard the Interceptor, fighting alongside them and the AI Aya (with whom he developed a deep emotional bond). He later sought the Blue Lanterns to help master his rage. In later stories he has wielded both red and blue rings and even become a Green Lantern, reflecting his ongoing struggle to balance rage with hope.
