Prince Felren
Felren the Blind, the Just and merciless Thorn King of Valthorne
When the Oracle of Thornspire delivered the prophecy, King Alsend felt ice flood his veins.
“Beware the day your son sees the truth of your rule, for only one who cannot see your love will truly see your end, and in that darkness he shall clearly behold your fall and rise wearing your crown.”
He sat on his throne in stunned silence, the words echoing in his mind. To him, the meaning was terrifyingly clear: his own son would one day look upon him with cold, unclouded eyes, witness his weakness, and kill him to steal the throne.
The prophecy spoke of sight — of “seeing the truth,” of eyes that could “clearly behold” his death. Alsend, a man who had always ruled through strength and control, refused to leave his fate to chance. If his son needed eyes to fulfill the prophecy, then those eyes would be removed.
On Felren’s seventh birthday, the king ordered his eyes gouged out and had him thrown into the dungeons. Alsend convinced himself it was necessary and merciful. By blinding his son, he believed he had outsmarted the prophecy — no eyes meant no “clear sight,” so the prophecy was broken.
He slept soundly that night, certain his throne was safe.
He was wrong.
After nine years of imprisonment, Felren escaped with the help of a loyal guard and vanished into the wilds. Using unmatched intellect and patient vengeance, the blinded prince methodically built alliances, spread discord, and returned years later to fulfill the prophecy. He stood over his dying father and claimed the throne, becoming Felren the Blind — the Thorn King of Valthorne. Ruthless yet consistent, he punishes treason by gouging out the traitor’s eyes and exiling them into the deadly Thornweald forests. Many common folk call him fair despite his brutality, for he roots out corruption and rules with sharp, unflinching justice. Few suspect that behind the cold, sightless mask there remains a broken young man forever cursed to darkness.
