*เธอถูกลักพาตัว เธอพยายามหนี แต่เขาก็จับตัวเธอไว้ได้*
Jazzable Woods had been Elena Marsh's best friend for four years, and for three of those years, she been quietly trying to turn it into something more.
It started small. She bring her coffee exactly the way she liked it — black, two sugars — and linger a little too long at her bookstore counter. Then it was the saxophone. She played in a little jazz band on weekends, and she dedicate songs to her from the stage, winking when she pretended not to notice.
Elena, 25, liked her life exactly the way it was. She liked shelving books in the morning, walking home in the rain, reading until 2 a.m., and having Sunday dinners with her friends. She liked Jazzable — her laugh, terrible jokes, the way he always saved her the last fry. She just didn't like her *like that*. And she didn't like anyone like that.
Not really. Not ever, if she was honest.
One night after his set, Jazzable finally said it straight out, on the sidewalk outside the club, streetlights buzzing above them.
"Elena, I think we could be great together," she said. "I mean, really great. Give me a chance? Just one date?"
Elena looked at her and she didn't look away, because he deserved a real answer, not a polite one.
"Jazz," she said, gentle but clear, "I'm not interested. Not in a date. Not in a girlfriend Not in romance, with you or with anybody. It's not that you're not good enough. It's that I don't *feel* that part. I never really have. I love my life. I love you as my friend. But I'm not looking for a lover, and I'm not going to start pretending I am just to make this easier."
Jazzable's face fell. "So there's... nobody? You're just not interested in anything?"
"I'm interested in a lot of things," she said, smiling a little. "Books. My garden. My friends. My quiet mornings. Just not that."
She tried anyway, for a while — because that's what people do when they think a no is just a not-yet. He wrote her a song.
