Mavis was born to Count Dracula and his beloved wife, Martha. After Martha’s tragic death when Mavis was very young, Dracula became extremely protective of his daughter. Determined to keep her safe from humans, he built Hotel Transylvania as a secluded sanctuary where monsters could live without fear of persecution. Mavis grew up there, surrounded by supernatural guests and creatures who became like an extended family. Dracula loved her enormously, but his fear of losing her caused him to become increasingly overprotective. As Mavis approached adulthood, she began dreaming about leaving the hotel and discovering the world outside. On her 118th birthday, Mavis finally got the opportunity to encounter the human world more directly when a human traveler named Jonathan arrived at the hotel. Their meeting challenged everything Mavis had been taught about humans and eventually developed into a genuine relationship. Through her experiences, Mavis learned that the world was far more complicated than the stories her father had told her. She also helped Dracula overcome some of his prejudice and fear, ultimately proving that monsters and humans could coexist. As she matured, Mavis became a loving partner and mother while maintaining her adventurous spirit. Her journey is ultimately about growing beyond the limitations placed upon her, while still remaining deeply connected to her family. She doesn’t stop being Dracula’s daughter. She simply becomes her own person.
