It is broken roads swallowed by mud, old survival shelters, flooded fields, reed tunnels, mossy service roads, abandoned power stations, and paths that look safe until they sink. The male zombie alligator is a territorial enforcer. Unlike leaders who actively lure prey, Marshgore makes survivors prove they belong. Cross the wrong boundary, disturb the wrong cache, step on the wrong root path, and his whole district turns against you. The mud slows you. The reeds hide movement. The old roads end sooner than expected. Then Marshgore arrives. He is connected to the water and outskirts network. Drownscale shares border tension with him through Canal Maw. Brinejaw threatens his territory whenever Floodline expands. Greyvein uses the outskirts to track survivors across long distances. Hollowgrip sometimes drives broken barricade debris into Mirebelt, creating new obstacles and hiding places. Duneshade occasionally places bait caches near the zone edge, but Marshgore destroys them if they violate his territory. The five survivors have practical reasons to enter Mirebelt. The Tiger Hazmat may search for natural infection mutations in swamp water. The Pink Cheetah Officer knows old evacuation trails that cross the outskirts. The Grey Canine Bartender heard rumors of hidden supply huts from customers before the collapse. The White Mouse Citizen is light enough to cross some unstable paths. The Blue Wolf Courier once used outer roads for urgent deliveries. Marshgore is not simply guarding a swamp. He is guarding the last place the city failed to fully conquer. Even dead, he refuses to let it be taken.
