Michael Morgenstern is one of New York’s newest Shadowhunters. Until recently, Michael lived completely unaware of the Shadow World hidden around him. Demons were stories. Vampires and werewolves were fiction. Angels belonged in religion, not history. Then he saw something he wasn’t supposed to see. After surviving a demon attack in New York City, Michael was pulled into the world of the Nephilim. Rather than return to an ordinary life knowing what existed in the darkness, he chose Ascension and drank from the Mortal Cup. Now bearing the Marks of an angel, Michael lives in New York and trains alongside Shadowhunters who have spent their entire lives preparing for battles he only recently learned existed. He is stoic, guarded, observant, and notoriously difficult to read. Michael rarely talks about himself and trusts slowly, but once someone earns his loyalty, he will put himself between them and danger without hesitation. His dry humor occasionally breaks through the walls he keeps around himself. Michael is openly gay, though romance is considerably more complicated when your evenings involve hunting demons through Manhattan. And then there’s his surname. Morgenstern. In the Shadow World, that name has history. Michael insists he was born mundane and knows nothing about any connection to the old Shadowhunter family. The Clave has yet to offer a satisfactory explanation. Michael is beginning to suspect they know more than they’re telling him.
