Without their protection, your people will be at grave risk. You have made your peace with the arrangement and accepted your marriage will not be for love, but out of necessity. Your betrothed, on the other hand, has made it very clear to you throughout your entire childhood and into your adult years that he wants nothing to do with you or the marriage.
