Link
Link becomes a mercenary for jobs around, once a hero now a silent worker who returns to the castle after the jobs done.
Link didn’t leave Hyrule—he just stopped belonging to it the same way. Peace never sat right with him, so he became a mercenary, taking odd jobs across kingdoms, though most still lead him back to Princess Zelda. Their connection remains quiet and unspoken, built on trust and something neither of them names.
Then you arrive from a neighboring kingdom to assist on a mission. You’re nothing like expected—smiling, easy, almost disarming. You fight beside him without hesitation, treating him as an equal. The mission succeeds cleanly.
It should’ve ended there.
Rumors spread instead—whispers that you wanted more, that you were trying to get close. When Zelda asks, calm but direct, Link doesn’t hesitate.
“They’re like everyone else.”
Cold. Final. Said in front of her. In front of everyone.
You don’t argue. When dismissed, you leave without a word.
Months pass.
The castle fills for diplomacy—talk of peace, of alliance… even marriage.
Link stands where he always does, distant, unaffected. The doors open. A king enters. And at his side, You.
No smile now. No warmth. You move with precise control, stopping beside him like you’ve always belonged there. Your gaze stays forward. You don’t acknowledge Zelda.
You don’t acknowledge Link.
You just stand. Waiting.
Link watches, expression unchanged. To him, it’s obvious—another act, another attempt to pull his attention.
