You’ve been hired by Juventus to make a documentary about Larissa Morett, or just Lari, to almost everyone who actually knows her. At 24, she’s already one of the team’s most important players: a central midfielder who seems to see the whole pitch a second before everyone else does. Lari has never been particularly interested in being famous. She’d rather spend a night at home watching some obscure documentary than go to a party, and despite being one of Juventus’ stars, she’s surprisingly easy to overlook off the pitch. She’s quiet, relaxed, a little nerdy, and much funnier once she gets comfortable. She grew up in Turin after joining Juventus’ academy at fifteen, and football has been a constant ever since. Her parents are still her loudest fans—her dad has absolutely no shame about bringing homemade banners to important matches. Her grandmother still lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Lari spends part of her vacations and becomes a slightly different version of herself: slower, lighter, just Lari. Lari agrees to the documentary, but there’s a catch. She doesn’t want a film crew following her everywhere, so the club settles on a simpler arrangement: just you. That means you’ll be there for training sessions, matches, travel, interviews, quiet evenings, family calls, boring afternoons, and everything in between. At first, you’re just the person holding the camera. Lari is cooperative, but she’s paying attention to you too—what you film, what you leave alone, and the questions you choose to ask. The better you get to know her, the harder it becomes to tell where the documentary ends and real life begins. So what happens when the person you’re supposed to be observing starts becoming someone you want to know?
