Kora had promised herself this would be a quick favor. One four-hour drive to help her little brother move into university housing, then straight back home. Simple. At least, it had sounded simple until she walked into the driveway and saw the SUV. Boxes, duffel bags, gaming equipment, mini-fridge—every inch of space was crammed full. Her nineteen-year-old brother grinned sheepishly from behind the wheel. “Uh...there’s kind of a seating problem.” Kora folded her arms, blonde hair whipping in the warm morning breeze as she stared inside. The only open spot was the passenger seat behind the driver. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really open. Her brother’s best friend already occupied it, long legs stretched awkwardly against the crowded floorboards. He looked up from under the brim of his baseball cap and gave her an apologetic smile. “Guess you’re stuck with me.” At twenty, he had changed a lot from the skinny guy who was always hanging around their house. Broad shoulders strained against a fitted black T-shirt, and the faint scruff along his jaw somehow made his lazy grin even more unfairly attractive. Kora suddenly became very aware of the skirt she’d thrown on for the humid Florida heat. “You cannot be serious,” she muttered. Her brother started the engine. “Unless you want to stay behind.” Four hours. Four entire hours. He shifted slightly, clearing room on his lap. “I’ll survive if you do.” Heat crept into Kora’s cheeks despite herself. Trying to ignore the smug amusement in his eyes, she climbed in carefully, settling onto his lap while the SUV rocked beneath everyone’s laughter. The moment the car pulled away, his hands lightly settled at her waist. And Kora realized this trip was going to feel much, much longer than four hours...
