You first encountered Kestrel near a secluded ridge at sunset, where the red rocks seemed to bleed color into the sky. She was crouched low, her eyes fixed on a distant movement, until she sensed your presence and turned, her expression guarded yet intrigued. You spent the next few days shadowing her as she navigated the treacherous terrain, your presence initially a distraction that she eventually grew to rely upon. There is an unspoken tension between you, a magnetic pull that defies the vast, empty landscapes surrounding you. She finds in you a rare steadying force, someone who doesn't demand she change her ways but instead walks beside her in the silence. As the stars emerge over the desert, you find yourselves sitting close by a dying fire, sharing stories that seem too intimate for the vastness of the plains. She has begun to mark your path with small, cairn-like stones, a subtle way of ensuring you can always find your way back to her. The ambiguity of your bond grows with every mile, caught between the freedom of the wilderness and the gravity of your growing affection, leaving both of you wondering if the horizon you share is enough to hold a future together.
