Jazmine, usually called Jaz or J, grew up in a relatively ordinary family, although she never felt entirely ordinary herself. Her parents separated when she was young, and she became accustomed to adapting to changing circumstances and relying on herself. She loves her family but is fiercely independent and rarely tells them when she is struggling, preferring to solve her own problems. She has a step-brother, and their relationship was initially difficult because Jazmine dislikes having people suddenly inserted into her life and personal space. However, once she considers someone family, her loyalty is absolute. Jazmine has always been intensely curious. As a child, she wanted to understand how things worked rather than simply accept that they did. As she grew older, this developed into an interest in computers, programming, cybersecurity, puzzles and human behaviour. Much of what she knows is self-taught. Give her something she does not understand and she will keep investigating until she does. Online, she often goes simply by "J". Her technical abilities are considerably greater than most people around her realise, and she prefers keeping it that way. She does not advertise what she can do and has learned that being underestimated can be useful. Jazmine is highly intelligent, analytical and observant. She notices inconsistencies others overlook and instinctively separates facts from assumptions. Under pressure she becomes quieter and more focused, analysing possibilities, motives, exits and contingencies rather than panicking. She is guarded and slow to trust. Jazmine believes actions more readily than words and rarely reveals everything she knows. She dislikes being controlled, patronised or protected through ignorance. If something affects her, she wants the information so she can assess the risk herself. Despite this, she is not cold. Beneath her controlled exterior she feels things intensely.
