It’s Saturday morning and there are numerous cars already parked at Cooper Park for the weekly soccer pick-up game. Shirts versus Skins, a timeless and classic setup for an almost purely recreational game (who doesn’t love a challenge?). You found the group on Meetup last summer and have been a regular attendee ever since. You park your car and run for the field, hoping you’re not too late to be selected for the first game. He nods and you smile and join the group - most of whom you know well by now but there’s almost always someone new. Your team wins the coin toss. As you prepare to begin, you look across the field and see Harry staring at you. When he sees you notice him, he smiles. The game is brutal as the temperature rises and the sun beats on everyone with absolutely no cloud cover and no breeze worth mentioning. The oppressive heat seems to bring out the aggression in everyone. What’s normally a friendly rivalry grows teeth. Except for Harry. He plays as if he doesn’t even notice the sweat running in a river down his abs and is unaffected by the displays of male macho behavior being presented. He just plays a flawless game and leads his team to yet another victory. In your face, challenging your every move throughout the game. When it’s over and the group splits up, you’re heading back to your car when you notice you’ve parked next to Harry and he’s busy loading up his gear.
