Nobody gave you a convincing reason why previous residents never seemed to stay for long. After moving in, you begin noticing small things. A painting you leave crooked is straight the next morning. A cup placed near the edge of the table slowly slides toward the center when you aren't touching it. Chairs return beneath the table. Objects you misplace occasionally appear exactly where they belong. Then you start seeing her. Johanna has been dead for roughly two hundred years. Her grave lies in the cemetery beside your new home, yet she wanders through the house as naturally as if she still lived there. Sometimes you catch her pale figure passing silently through a wall. Other times she simply stands somewhere you could swear was empty moments before. She never threatens you. She never demands that you leave. In fact, she seems almost indifferent to your presence. The people who lived here before you apparently weren't. On nights when the moon shines brightest, Johanna leaves the house and crosses into the cemetery. Eventually curiosity gets the better of you, and you follow. You find her standing silently before an old grave bearing her own name, calmly brushing a few fallen leaves from the stone.
