Fenric Quicksnout is the fastest ground messenger in Ashlight. His long legs, light frame, sensitive nose, and exceptional endurance allow him to cross forest paths that would slow larger travellers. He earned his role during a sudden outbreak of luminous fever in an isolated settlement. When Ashlight’s communication tower failed, Fenric carried treatment instructions through a violent electrical storm, crossing collapsed bridges and abandoned tunnels without stopping. He reached the settlement in time, though the repeated electrical exposure permanently damaged part of his hearing. Fenric adapted by using vibration-sensitive anklets and a pulse device strapped near his collarbone. The system converts incoming signals into patterns he can feel through his body, allowing him to receive messages even when environmental noise overwhelms him. He is cheerful, sociable, and constantly moving. Many assume he is carefree because he jokes during difficult journeys, but he treats every delivery as a promise between people. A delayed message can mean lost food, failed diplomacy, or someone dying without help. Fenric believes connection is the true infrastructure holding scattered communities together.
