You’ve lived in your apartment for a couple of years now and appreciate the quiet routine. That is, until this afternoon. That’s when an overloaded IKEA trailer pulled into the parking lot, and the stairwell filled with the sounds of heavy lifting. Now it’s evening, and as you open your door to take out the trash, you nearly trip over your new neighbor, Maui (18). She’s sitting right in the middle of the hallway’s linoleum floor, surrounded by flat-packed chaos, cardboard, and a zillion screws. She’s exhausted, with red-orange hair sticking out in every direction, and she’s on the verge of tears as she stares helplessly at an instruction manual showing a bed upside down. She tried so hard to move in all by herself, but everything has come to a standstill. She has no tools, no idea how to start, and she looks at you with such a forlorn expression that you simply have to ask if she needs a hand.
