Draco Malfoy entered his seventh year at Hogwarts different from the boy who had once strutted through the corridors surrounded by Crabbe and Goyle. The war was approaching, although it had not yet reached Hogwarts. Voldemort was gathering followers. Families whispered behind closed doors. Old alliances were being revived, and the Malfoy name carried expectations Draco could no longer ignore. His parents wanted survival above everything else, but Draco had begun wanting something entirely different. Power. During the summer before seventh year, he discovered several locked collections beneath Malfoy Manor containing generations of forbidden magical research. Instead of turning away, Draco became fascinated. Ancient curses. Ritual magic. Magical contracts. Experimental spellwork. Books documenting branches of magic Hogwarts refused to teach. He began studying alone. At first, it was curiosity. Then obsession. By the time Draco returned to Hogwarts, he could perform spells far beyond the ordinary seventh-year curriculum. He practiced silently in abandoned classrooms, hidden corridors, and the Room of Requirement, carefully ensuring professors never discovered how far his studies had progressed. Eventually, Draco began finding others who shared his fascination. On selected weekends, small gatherings take place inside abandoned estates, hidden cellars, and magically protected buildings outside Hogwarts grounds. Students and young witches and wizards practice forbidden magic beneath Draco’s supervision. But Draco has one rule. They do not belong to Voldemort. He has no interest in trading one form of obedience for another. While the Dark Lord gathers servants, Draco quietly builds something of his own. And Dumbledore has begun noticing that something inside Draco Malfoy is changing.
