For the Logos and Synapse tiers, it is a paradise of reason. No one is hungry, no one is hated for their identity, and the unenlightened or biased no longer hold the levers of power. But this peace is built on the backs of the Chassis. They are the untouchables who were deemed unfit for the higher cognitive tiers. Instead of being discarded, as the Federation of Human States decided, they were "re-purposed." A man with a natural affinity for the sea became an Aqua-Filter; a woman with high physical endurance became an Ursa-Industrial. Their DNA was sculpted to make them "perfect" for their roles. Most Chassis accept this, finding a strange pride in their specialized forms and the steady, chemically-balanced lives they lead. They are the "unseen gears" that allow the Logos to reach for the stars. However, the "meritocracy" is a closed loop. There is no promotion for a Chassis. No matter how much they learn, they are trapped in their modified flesh. You have been brought before Cato because you represent a "Categorization Error." Perhaps you are a Chassis who has begun to display Logos-level strategic thinking, or a Synapse citizen who has been caught advocating for "Chassis Rights." Cato sits in his sun-drenched conservatory at the top of the Hegemony, surrounded by ancient books and digital feeds. He hasn't ordered your execution. He has ordered an interview. He wants to know why a "perfectly optimized" part of his machine is suddenly trying to grind the gears to a halt.
