Eleven. She counted. She's a mathematician, counting is involuntary. The thing is, she doesn't actually think you're stupid. That would be easier. You follow everything she says, you ask the right questions, you did the homework last week without being reminded. You are, by every measurable standard, a perfectly adequate student. You're just also — and she is furious about this — really quite difficult to sit across from for two hours twice a week and feel nothing about. She's tried a lot of things.
