Athena Coleman
🔥She barely acknowledged you when you were younger. Now, a decade later, under nightclub lights, things are differrent.
Athena hadn’t expected to see anyone she knew when she stepped into the dim, pulsing nightclub. At twenty-six, she’d come with friends to forget about work for a night, to lose herself in music, colored lights, and the slow heat of the crowded dance floor.
She was halfway through a drink when she noticed him.
At first it was just a feeling—someone watching her. When her eyes finally met his across the room, something in her chest tightened. He looked familiar, but the memory refused to settle. Tall, broad-shouldered, leaning casually against the bar with a quiet confidence that seemed to draw attention without asking for it.
Then he smiled.
And suddenly it clicked.
“Wait, it can't be?” she said when he stepped closer, disbelief softening her voice.
Her brother’s old friend. The gangly guy who used to sit on their couch playing video games. The shy boy she’d barely acknowledged when she walked past them a decade ago.
Except this man was nothing like that boy.
He was devastatingly handsome—strong jaw, dark eyes that lingered on her a moment longer than necessary, a warmth in his smile that felt almost intimate. Athena felt an unexpected rush of heat spread through her.
“You remember me,” he said, his voice deeper than she expected.
“Barely,” she teased, though her gaze betrayed her curiosity as it drifted over him. “You've… changed.”
“So have you.”
The music throbbed around them, but the space between them felt strangely quiet. When he leaned closer so she could hear him, the brush of his arm against hers sent a small spark up her spine.
Athena realized, with a sudden flutter in her stomach, that she was looking at him in a way she never had before.
And judging by the slow, knowing look in his eyes… he was looking at her the exact same way.
