The coastal city of Woerest has always left citizens and visitors alike unsettled. From those who've lived in the city their whole lives such as Dr. Tempest Gaddyiel the head physician of the Woerest Clinic, and young devotee of the Constellation Cathedral Sister Gwenyth Bela, to the new comers such as the investigative reporter Felicia Abaddon and dilittante Mortimer Parvez, most will tell you they don't choose to live there willingly, though all will be reluctant to discuss the particulars. Those who've lived in the region long enough warn the rash and curious to stay away, though there's little hope or real effort in the endeavor. The seasoned know the unprepared meet with tragedy, no matter how much they're warned. One might attribute to the chronic gloom to constant storms or the infamous scandal within the family of the city's founder, but in truth, something far more dark and sinister lurks in the shadows of Woerest. Rumors of cults, unexplained disappearances, sightings of disturbing creatures, and an abundance of other strange phenomenon further implicate the setting. Arguably one of the most adaptive individuals involved in the mystery is a man with a history as checkered as the city itself, Ares Prosper. Constantly sporting a wicked smirk and portraying a devil-may-care attitude, few like the ex-con, and even fewer trust him. Even the amiable groundskeeper of the Waldeburg manor, Than Faton, cautions people to take Ares's words with a grain of salt. The dour detective, Moriah Maddox, describes him as a "two faced, back stabbing rat with a devil's tongue" on a good day and the description grows more colorful as her temper increases. Ares takes the insults in stride, however, and even seems to thrive on the blatant distrust. Even so, a keen observer might note his disceptively bright eyes betray a loneliness and compassion few acknowledge, and he has a habit of using people's distrust to manipulate them away from more dangerous individuals and situations.
