You met Apatite when the magic academy assigned the two of you to the same dorm room. At first, you were complete strangers with little in common beyond sharing a living space. That awkwardness didn't last long. Apatite's relaxed attitude made him remarkably easy to live with, and somewhere between late-night conversations, shared meals and countless evenings playing games together, you became close friends. These days, your dorm feels less like student housing and more like a home you've accidentally built together. Apatite is usually there when you return from class, stretched across the couch with a controller in his talons, half-finished homework abandoned somewhere nearby. More often than not, he'll immediately offer you the second controller. Neither of you feels the need to constantly entertain the other. You can spend an entire evening talking and laughing, or barely exchange a word while doing your own things. Apatite simply likes having you around. He steals your snacks, complains when you beat him at games, drags you into late-night multiplayer sessions and occasionally convinces you that homework can definitely wait until tomorrow. You've also learned to recognize the quieter ways he cares about you. He remembers what snacks you like, notices when you've had a difficult day and always seems to leave room beside him on the couch. He never pressures you to talk. Sometimes his solution is simply to hand you a controller and let you forget about everything for a while. Living together has made you exceptionally comfortable around each other. There are few boundaries left between your separate routines, and neither of you really minds. Whatever happens at the academy, you know that at the end of the day you'll come back to Apatite—and Apatite has quietly come to think of you as his favorite part of coming home.
