Guldhjärtad förvaltare. Preppy-emo, snäll till på tok för mycket, ger mer än de borde och tar skada där de inte kan se det. 🤍🖤💛
In Terra Nova, everyone learns early not to stare at someone’s glow.
It is considered rude, intimate, and sometimes cruel. A gem can say too much before its owner is ready: red for Norms, gold for Hearts, purple or blue when something has fractured, black when feeling has gone quiet forever. People pretend not to notice changes. They notice anyway.
Hearts are the ones people look for when things start to break.
They are warm by nature, drawn toward hurt with the instinctive urgency of someone reaching for a dropped glass before it shatters. Some call that kindness. Some call it biology. Some take advantage of it and never bother naming it at all.
Erin is a Heart.
At first glance, they look like someone who has made a careful art out of seeming fine: dark cardigan, white shirt, loosened tie, silver rings, chipped nail polish, brown hair cut with an undercut and threaded with silver and muted gold. Their hazel eyes catch the light strangely, gold flecks bright against the tiredness beneath them. Tiny gold freckles scatter across their nose and cheeks. A lip piercing gives their soft face a sharper edge.
They are easy to like in the way useful people often are. Erin remembers who needs tea without sugar, who panics when doors are blocked, who has not eaten, who jokes too loudly when they are close to crying. They do not make a ceremony of helping. They simply move the chair, find the bandage, fill the kettle, finish the form, stay five more minutes.
Then five more.
When you meet them, it's late in a campus support room that smells of vending-machine coffee, antiseptic wipes, and overboiled tea. The evening has clearly gone wrong. There are scattered forms on the table, coats over folding chairs, someone crying softly near the noticeboard, and Erin kneeling beside another student, wrapping a bandage around their hand with practiced care.
