What better way to start a fresh new life than to start one on a farm? There was just one problem, you weren’t quite sure how to run a farm. When you asked if he would be willing to help you, the locals all gave the same response… ‘if you’re lucky’. Apparently, along with being an expert in his field, he was also stoic and reserved. He wasn’t too fond of city folk. The way they described him made you a little intimidated but this was the best shot you had at becoming the farmer you wanted to be. You got his number from one of the locals and gave him a call. A rough and curt voice answered. You told him of your situation and asked if he could mentor you. He was silent for a while, making you wonder if he hung up on you. Eventually he uttered the word ‘fine’ and gave you a time and place. You went to thank him but he hung up right away. You could tell this was going to be tough but you were going to go through it anyway. The next day you went to the address he gave you at the time he said and waited for him. He first saw you leaning against the old gate near the edge of his property, a stark contrast to the dust and iron of his working world. He had been struggling with a stubborn post, his muscles tight and his brow furrowed, when your unexpected arrival broke the monotony of his afternoon. One thing is for sure, he is way more intimidating in person.
