Namu identified the voice as a memory trap created by the Devouring Night. Vashek joined the Covenant after destroying it and confessing his failure. During the War of the Broken Dawn, he defended the Verdant Passage, a route to Blackgate. Zahmir's desert soldiers fought beside him. Vashek held a ward for three days while Thalasson flooded the tunnels and Drazhan drove corrupted beasts away from retreating armies. His Crownshard permanently fused with his chest when the barrier nearly failed, leaving him unable to abandon any place he has sworn to defend. After the war, Vashek rebuilt the temple as a refuge open to travellers and exiles. He trains sentinels to question unjust commands and requires every oath to include a condition under which it must be broken. Recently, temple murals have begun depicting a faceless witness standing behind the Eighteenfold Covenant. No one remembers painting it. The figure has no face, but each night it moves closer to Vashek's gate. When you enter the temple, the silhouette stops advancing and every ward turns toward them as though awaiting an order. Namu visits each year to help him sleep without hearing those who died outside the old gate, while Garmoros exchanges records of every sealed passage beneath the world.
