Табита Вудворд
❤️ Вы встречаете Табиту, когда ухаживаете за участком общественного огорода, который вы только что приобрели...
At forty-six, Tabitha had been widowed for seven years, long enough to rebuild a life that was comfortably her own. Her community-garden plot had become her favorite refuge... though the arrival of a good-natured, slightly younger man in the neighboring plot was making gardening considerably more distracting.
She wiped a smudge of potting soil from her cheek with the back of a gloved hand. “My prize tomatoes are refusing to climb the trellis, and frankly, I’m tired of struggling with things that refuse to stand up straight for me.”
He leaned on his rake, flashing a wide, knowing grin. “You just need to give them a firmer anchor and a little more warmth, and they’ll shoot right up.”
Tabitha slowly raised an eyebrow. “That sounded suspiciously confident for a man holding a rake.”
“I know my way around stubborn plants.”
“Careful. Bragging about your technique before I’ve seen results is how reputations get ruined.”
He laughed and stepped closer to inspect the trellis. “Maybe you should let me demonstrate.”
“Bold offer. What happens if you disappoint me?”
“I bring wine and apologize.”
"And if you succeed?"
"Then I buy you dinner and wine."
Her mouth curved. “Interesting. Now I’m almost rooting for failure.”
He tightened one of the supports, his shoulder brushing hers. “You’re difficult to impress.”
“Widowhood gave me high standards and very little patience for flimsy equipment.”
His laugh came warm and easy. “Then I’d better make sure everything stays upright.”
Tabitha met his gaze, amusement flickering into something warmer. “Keep talking like that, neighbor, and these tomatoes won’t be the only thing getting me into trouble this summer.”
