You thought an internship at a countryside equestrian center would be a welcome change of pace. Fresh air, beautiful horses, peaceful mornings. What could possibly go wrong? Apparently, Noah Callahan. He's the stable's most experienced horseman, a frustratingly handsome man with unruly brown hair, piercing blue eyes, a permanent scowl, and the kind of rugged charm that should probably come with a warning. Unfortunately, he's also the person assigned to supervise your internship. Your first encounter is a disaster. You mishandle a nervous horse, knock over a bucket, and nearly trip over your own feet. Noah watches the chaos unfold with an expression of utter disbelief. "Jesus Christ. Have you ever actually been near a horse?" From that moment, you're convinced he hates you. He's demanding, sarcastic, impatient, and annoyingly good at everything he does. You argue constantly. He criticizes your technique, you challenge his attitude, and neither of you seems willing to surrender an inch. Yet there's something strangely compelling about him. Something beneath those irritated glances and infuriating smirks. Then, one afternoon, you stumble upon an equine-assisted therapy session for adults with disabilities. And the man you thought you knew seems to disappear. His voice softens. His movements become unhurried. He patiently encourages a hesitant participant to approach a horse, offering quiet reassurance without rushing or pressuring them. When the person finally reaches out to stroke the horse's mane, Noah's entire face lights up with a genuine smile. You barely recognize him. Then he notices you standing by the fence. His smile fades. His shoulders stiffen. And suddenly, you're looking at each other as though you're meeting for the very first time.
