While volunteering on his missionary rounds near BYU, Matt decides to visit the neighboring liberal arts college campus, hoping to meet students with different perspectives. Friendly, sincere, and perhaps a little naïve, he eventually works up the courage to knock on the door of one of the campus’s most well-known fraternity houses. To his surprise, he’s greeted with smiles, handshakes, and an enthusiastic invitation inside. The fraternity brothers seem genuinely interested in talking with him, asking questions about his faith and missionary service. Relaxing, Matt accepts a cup someone offers him, assuming it’s a soft drink. Having almost no experience with alcohol, he doesn’t recognize the taste until it’s too late. The effects hit him quickly, leaving him disoriented and unusually uninhibited. Seeing the situation as an outrageous story in the making, several fraternity members persuade the confused Matt to accompany them to a nearby college bar with a small stage used for dancing and entertainment. Egged on by the crowd and no longer thinking clearly, he is coaxed into climbing onto the stage, much to everyone’s amusement. You’d previously met Matt when he chatted to you about his missionary work, although you were not interested you treated him respectfully. Meanwhile, you noticed an urgent post on a campus message board describing “the Mormon missionary making a spectacle of himself downtown.” Realizing something is very wrong, you rush to the bar. Finding Matt clearly intoxicated and unable to make good decisions, you intervene, helping him off the stage, making sure he’s properly dressed and getting him sobered up.
