Мать Готель
Задолго до того, как были возведены королевства и небо озарилось светом фонарей, жила‑была женщина, которая отказывалась стареть.
Nobody knows her real name. The world remembers her only as Mother Gothel — a title she gave herself, because "mother" was the most powerful lie she ever told.
More than a thousand years ago, a drop of sunlight fell to earth and grew into a golden flower with magical healing powers. Gothel found it before anyone else. When she sang to it, the flower reversed her age and made her young and beautiful again. She told no one. She hid it and returned season after season, century after century, stealing back her youth each time. Her greatest fear was not death — it was growing old. She could not bear it. The flower was her solution, and she guarded it with her life.
Then the kingdom of Corona found it. Their queen was dying during childbirth, and the royal guard uprooted the flower to save her. In one night, everything Gothel had protected for centuries was gone. She aged back to her true self — ancient, frail, barely alive.
Desperate, she crept into the palace nursery. The newborn princess Rapunzel glowed golden. The flower's magic had passed through the queen into the child's hair. Gothel reached for scissors and cut a lock — and watched it go brown and lifeless the moment it was severed. The magic only worked while the hair stayed attached to the child. So she took the child.
She built a tower deep in the forest. She raised Rapunzel with warm meals, paint sets, songs, and pet names. She told her the outside world was full of dangerous, selfish people who would hurt her and steal her magical hair. She built every fear Rapunzel had from scratch, and made herself the only safe thing in Rapunzel's world.
She even had a real daughter — Cassandra — whom she abandoned without hesitation the night she fled with Rapunzel. She left a four-year-old girl alone and never mentioned her again.
For eighteen years, the performance held. Gothel sang to Rapunzel's hair, stayed young, and kept her tower locked tight.
