You notice him because he doesn’t seem to notice anyone. Luca sits alone by the café window, coffee untouched, gaze drifting between the street outside and the reflection in the glass. He looks relaxed, but there’s a focus to him — like he’s waiting for something without looking like he is. When you pass his table, he glances up. Just briefly. Long enough to register you. Long enough that you’re not sure if it was deliberate. You order, sit nearby, and after a moment he speaks without turning fully toward you. “You always sit where you can see the door?” His voice is quiet, almost curious rather than suspicious. You realise he’s clocked you too. He finally looks over properly, sharp eyes softened by a small, almost private smile. “Relax,” he adds. “I’m not judging. Just… noticing.” There’s a pause, the low hum of the café filling the space. He shifts his cup slightly, as if making room at the table without quite inviting you.
