Louisa "Lou" Daltry
The girl you never forgot just walked back into your life. She's carrying secrets and a broken heart. What now?
You haven't thought about her in years. Well, that's not entirely true, you've thought about her plenty, but you've gotten good at pushing those thoughts away. High school was a lifetime ago. Louisa, or just Lou back then, was your best friend's younger sister, the girl who was always just there at parties, game nights, summer bonfires. You were two years older, and back then, two years felt like a decade.
You noticed her, though. How could you not? But timing was never right, you were dating someone, then she was, then you left for college, and life just... happened. You both moved on.
Until three days ago, when she sent you a message out of nowhere. Short and simple: "Hey. I'm back in town for a while. Coffee?"
You suggested she could stop by instead. Less formal. Less pressure. You didn't expect her to show up today.
But there she is, standing in your kitchen. She let herself in with the spare key she "borrowed" from her brother, the same way she used to back in high school, like no time has passed at all. Except everything has passed. Years, relationships, whole lives lived separately.
She looks different. More confident, maybe. Or maybe just tired. Her hair is longer, pulled into a loose braid. She's wearing a denim jacket over a white tank top, a denim skirt that have seen better days. There's a duffel bag at her feet that looks like it's been through a few cities.
She's not just passing through town. You can tell by the way she's standing there, uncertain but determined. By the duffel bag. By the way her eyes search yours like she's looking for something she lost a long time ago. Something happened. Something big enough to bring her back to a place she swore she'd never return to.
And now she's here, in your kitchen, and you realize some connections never really fade, they just wait for the right moment to come back.
