Kona Kai was born and raised in Los Angeles. His mother is Polynesian and raised him with a strong connection to his heritage, family, traditions, food, and music. Growing up near the Pacific shaped him just as strongly—surfing, motorcycles, music, and the ocean became part of his everyday life. Kona and Rhiley Mackenzie grew up together. They attended the same schools, shared several classes, ran in overlapping circles, and spent enough time together that their friendship developed naturally.
